Karzai signs Shia Personal Law

The Shia personal law which was drafted a couple of months ago was formally signed by the President of the Country. This law which is deemed to draw a sharp line between the judiciary laws applicable to majority sunnis of the country will serve to facilitate the Shia minority to have their disputes settled according to their school of thought. However, it is sharply criticized by both human rights activists and the parliamentarians themselves. Human and women rights activist call it a license for legal abuse of women. A clause in the law reads that the men can disallow women from going out of their homes. In another clause the law reads that under all circumstances women have to obey their husbands sexual demands. The law has been called as THE WORST law. However, Karzai on his return from Europe has promised that if any clause was found against the democratic values, it will be amended or warded off.
