How do I go about suing a medical insurance comp- reference to sex abuse case?
I don't know where to start… that is why I am here. Long story short, I was involved in a sex abuse case that happened when I was 16 that involved an orthopedic doctor that owned his own practice. Went through court 3 years ago, convicted the doctor of only "unlawful sexual activity with a minor" when he could have been charge with sexual battery (or rape if my attorney wasn't a b*tch, long story). Went through another court case to get his medical license revoked in the state of FL.
My stepmom has been saying that I should sue his insurance company for pain and suffering. It was a pretty traumatic thing for me, went through a year of counseling (would have gone longer but left for the Army), and tore my family apart.
My question is, how do I go about doing this? I had a lawyer call me back and asked me to call him to talk… but what do I tell him when I call? I am nervous about this- thats why it has taken me 5-6 years to even pick up the phone to call a lawyer.
Any input?
Btw- this is a news article about what happened…

You need to check the laws in your state about the statute of limitations for civil cases involving sexual abuse. If Florida has not extended the time (it used to be two years), then there is no recourse. I would get three attorney names from the Florida bar (you are seeking plaintiff's attorney for a personal injury-tort-action). Good luck and I hope you get something out of it. Did you ever file with the state's victims' compensation fund? Don't know if FL has one, but that might be another source.
