Any kind of sexual abuse is atrocious, especially the abuse of children.
Anyone who abuses a child is a monster and deserves the strictest of punishment.
I’m an ex-Catholic, now Atheist.
The Catholic Church needs to allow priests and nuns to have a sexual life and to marry.

It sickens and infuriates me that any child would be treated in this manner. It angers me more that someone could do that to another human being.

To me it makes no difference where the sexual abuse of a child comes from. The penalty is the same, and that is death by fire.

It is sad but typical for institutions, religious or otherwise.

I think the nuns are getting a bad rap, BTW. I’m reading the report, and sexual abuse by a nun was rare. Of the 188 reported abusers of girls, only 16 were nuns.

Of the 246 reported abusers of boys, only 4 were nuns (compare that with the 6 female LAY staff):

EDIT: Okay, I’ve run the numbers, and if my math is correct, over half (55%) of the reported abusers were LAITY, not brothers, nuns, or priests. Only 4.6% of the reported abusers were nuns.

Well we in the States went through all this about 10 years ago for the most part. Outrage, retribution etc. Fine the crap out of the church, demand punishment of those responsible. I don’t know what the victims can expect for monetary compensation in Ireland but don’t expect any harsh punishment from the church though, sorry to say.

I think it's horrible what happened and what still happens, and that these children are horribly scarred emotionally now. But I do think that this is whipped so that people can tar the whole Church with the pedo-brush and that it's possibly a little overrepresented.
